Cruel and ambitious, Anubis is quick to mock, corrupt, or kill whatever and whoever stands in the way of attaining more glory for himself. Once a soldier on the frequent battlefields of Japan's warring states period, Anubis sold his soul to the Netherworld in exchange for greater power and authority. Due to his prowess in battle, he was hand-picked by the Demon Emperor to be granted the Shikkoku armor, one of the nine mystical armors that were created from remains of the Emperor's own destroyed armor. In return, Anubis has loyally served the Netherworld ever since, always vying for that top position among the Emperor's favored four Demon Generals.

 

The Shikkoku armor - also known as the Armor of the Jackal - draws its power from cold and darkness, giving the wearer incredible strength and speed. While the Samurai Troopers' armors each have an elemental theme, the armors worn by the Masho are fashioned after the four seasons. Shikkoku represents Winter. The massive nodachi (Japanese sword) that Anubis wields has the ability to suck all light from the surrounding area and transform its energy into a lightning-like attack. The armor also allows him to freeze his surroundings, including living creatures. If he reanimates those creatures, they awaken corrupted and under his command (though this corruption ability doesn't seem to affect humans). Anubis also fights with claw-like blades attached to the left hand of the armor.

 

Anubis is a persistent and persuasive speaker who wields his words as brutally as his weapons in order to bring others to his perspective, typically via relentless belittling and twists of logic designed to foster self-doubt regarding one's own motives and abilities. The Demon General of Darkness abides by the belief that the weak should die to make room for the strong, and anyone who fights - even if for a 'good cause' - must feel the same.

 

It is said that if he were to use his powers for good, Anubis would be a guide to those who have lost their way in the darkness.
